Position Purpose Summary

Responsible for leading and managing the private fleet transportation process.  Works closely with Logistics, sales, business units and other support personnel to ensure optimization of the delivery network, integrated backhaul utilization, timely delivery, consistent fleet management and driver safety.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Understands the company’s vision, mission, and strategy; understands business unit objectives and sets/accomplishes individual performance goals accordingly.
  • Clearly define, communicate and manage all DOT and transportation safety requirement processes for all drivers and vehicles within a Triad region.               
  • Manage/execute fleet maintenance processes in a Triad region to ensure that all vehicles are serviced in uniform, cost effective and timely procedures.        
  • Manage the routing clerks/function to ensure that all facilities within a Triad region consistently comply with the group routing procedures.  Ensure all deliveries are routed in the optimum manner and that all product deliveries, both internal and external, are integrated into a comprehensive routing solution.
  • Recommend the purchase/lease fleet tractors and trailers for Triad region as necessary and consistent with logistics group fleet replacement procedures.            
  • Manage/execute Triad region backhaul processes and integrate sourcing, selecting and servicing both internal and external backhaul opportunities into daily routing activities. 
  • Administer and refine measurement processes to drive continuous improvement in areas such as Service, Quality, Productivity and expense control within the locations transportation program.             

Leads team; selects/hires; develops objectives; coaches and evaluates performance.  Ensures direct reports obtain applicable training and development opportunities to enhance performance, development, and contributions to the company.  Holds direct reports accountable for individual and team performance.  Addresses performance issues appropriately and timely.

Qualifications

Experience in a distribution operation.   Process improvement and operating efficiency competency.  Branch operations and systems knowledge.  Knowledge and experience in vendor pick ups, stock replenishment; communication skills; inventory control; material, stock handling, shipping and receiving; safety, products and governmental compliance.  Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite Software and relevant tools / technology.   

 

Years of experience: 5-8 years experience in related field preferred.   6+ years experience w/ MS/MA/MBA.
