Position Purpose Summary

Provides analysis and reporting to support transportation initiatives. Dispatches truckload, LTL and inter-modal shipments from vendor and port locations based on cost and service requirements.  Routes fleets to maximize efficiency by using a software routing application.

 

Responsibilities

  • Understands the company’s vision, mission, and strategy; understands business unit objectives and sets/accomplishes individual performance goals accordingly.
  • Performs analysis to validate the cost-effectiveness of various transportation alternatives.

  • Creates ad hoc reports needed to support daily business needs.

  • Analyzes miles traveled and stops made for fleet during route and makes recommendationsfor improving efficiency, reducing costs, and modifying road networks.

  • Ensures per load metrics are within guidelines.  Compares planned and actual route information to identify potential problems.
  • Update and maintain optimized routing structures.  Enters orders directly into transportation management systems.
  • Actively participate in productivity improvement through effective route planning and transportation cost reduction initiatives.  Seeks opportunities to increase backhaul revenue for company fleet.
  • Communicates with motor carriers on service issues, commitment, and responsiveness.   
  • Provides trouble-shooting and real time solutions to minimize service disruptions/missed pickups in a cost effective manner.

Qualifications

Knowledge of motor carriers and other transportation service providers. Knowledge of BlueLinx transportation management systems.  Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite Software and relevant tools/technology.

Years of experience: 2-5 years experience preferred with BS / BA; 2-4 years experience with MS / MA / MBA.
