Purpose Sumary

Market Development Manager responsible for prospecting and developing new customer segments in the millwork and metal product categories.  This position will create and support the incremental sales growth and awareness by prospecting accounts in the categories in fasteners, cabinets, millwork, flooring and metals  to align the channel on our assigned specialty product lines to meet the growth objectives of his/her territory.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the company’s vision, mission, and strategy; understands business unit objectives and sets/accomplishes individual performance goals accordingly.
  • Supports sales representatives in identifying / prospecting new sales opportunities with new and existing customers.  Maximizes sales efforts by focusing sales employees’ time on largest most profitable opportunities (coaches sales reps in segmenting account list).  Responsible for managing sales representatives to improve profitability, product penetration and product mix with all customers.
  • Conducts joint sales calls with sales representatives to identify opportunities and maintain / build customer relationships (including sales representative coaching / mentoring).   
  • Qualifies sales opportunities through market / customer research and teaming with outside sales representatives.
  • Develops sales solutions and competitive pricing strategies. Communicates value proposition to customers.  Propose sales solutions to customers and reevaluate solutions where necessary.
  • Recommends product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.  Resolves sensitive customer issues.
  • Evaluates and implements appropriate new sales techniques to increase sales effectiveness / profitability.  Assists in developing sales plans and budgets for achieving sales goals.  Addresses non-performing accounts and products.
  • Manages inventory requirements for existing customer programs and support proper inventory levels for new products, programs and growth.  Initiates and enforces pricing policies / pricing execution. 

Qualifications

Sales experience, knowledge of product pricing, purchasing, account management, warehousing, transportation, safety, business development, customer service and support.  Financial acumen (specifically financial statements), strong analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative).  Planning, negotiation, decision-making, innovation, change management, persuasiveness and strong interpersonal skills.  Teamwork, ability to function well at different levels in a team environment.  Territory management and target marketing skills.  Ability to manage multiple priorities, sense of urgency, innovative, problem solving.  Customer focused.  Consultative and relationship selling skills.  Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software and relevant sales systems technology.

 

Years of experience: 5+ years of experience in related area of responsibility preferred3+ years with a MS / MA / MBA.
